We are pleased to have partnered up with the Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF) and the Youth Empowerment & Support Services (YESS) Edmonton for our major fundraising efforts.
Since March of 2013 over $40,000 has been donated to the ACF, more specifically Ovarian Cancer Research, through 3 separate initiatives:
1. The Sherlock Holmes Hospitality Group has their own signature brew, Colleen’s Amber Ale, and $0.50 from each pint sold is donated to the ACF for Ovarian Cancer Research in memory of Colleen Tomchuk, our managing partner’s late wife.
2. Over the last 28 years, it’s been customary for tourists to attach money to the Bourbon Street pub’s bar. They adorn the money with their names, drawings, quotes, etc. to leave their mark on the pub. As soon as the money was taken down, people started putting it up again so we decided to donate the money every year to the ACF and match the donations.
3. Each year a Sherlock Holmes Pubs Charity Classic Golf Tournament is held in July with the ACF and again more specifically Ovarian Cancer research being the main beneficiary. For the past 2 years there has been over $24,000 raised from these events.
With five pub locations, we go through a lot of bottles!!
So donating them to YESS’s Recycle for Youth program seemed a great decision – since May 2013 (when we started the program), we’ve contributed over $24,000. We know this money will help bring changes to many disadvantaged youth.
